I enthusiastically endorse Heather Anderson for Des Moines School Board. I have known her since 2004 as a teacher at my children’s school. She was a highly sought after classroom teacher known for her ability to work with all kinds of children. I could write extensively about her abilities in the classroom, her work establishing extracurricular activities as well as her amazing grant writing successes. For the purposes of the school board position, I will just say that her focus as always been on the students. Heather will work tirelessly to support the best for our children. She’s done it in our school and it would benefit all children in Des Moines to have her advocacy on the school board.

As a DMPS parent and as a legislator, I've been impressed by Heather's commitment to keeping the community informed about what's happening in Des Moines Schools. From being accessible for questions to spearheading efforts to bring communities together to work toward common purpose, Heather is about collaboration, listening, and finding solutions. Her voice is a valuable part of the Des Moines School Board, and I'm pleased to support her re-election!

I strongly urge you to vote for Heather Anderson-Morrow in the school board election next week. She is a teacher, DMPS parent and spouse, and an incredible advocate for our kids in a time when advocates for our kids seem to be in short supply. We need people like Heather on the school board.
Maeve Callan, Parent
Four years later and my enthusiasm for Heather's candidacy has only increased. As you'll know if you've been involved with the school board these past four years, Heather remains a staunch advocate for students, teachers, and families. She understands the consequences of policy decisions on multiple levels because she lives them--as a teacher for the past 20 years, as a parent, and as a DMPS alum herself. She's made some hard but vitally important decisions, standing up for the marginalized and underrepresented in particular. When the district changed the AFSCME contracts to make non-teaching staff de facto at-will employees, Heather was the solitary no vote, standing up for workers' rights. We need more representatives like her who will stand up for what's right against powerful interests. She remains accessible and attentive to anyone who wishes to discuss an issue with her, in her many open legislative coffees or whenever someone wants to get together to discuss their concerns. She continues to be an award-winning educator who prioritizes global awareness and engagement, winning the I.O.W. A. STEM award in 2017 and in 2018 serving as the National Education Association Foundation Global Teaching Fellow in South Africa, following that up this year with the World Teach Global Educators Exchange in Namibia. But probably what I appreciate most about Heather is how much she has inspired my own children. Finn served as her campaign manager in 2015 and is doing the same for her re-election campaign--a veteran at 17. Hunter, her student when he was seven and eight, is also determined to do all he can to see her re-elected, because he knows how much she believes in students and how she empowers them to develop their own skills and abilities. She sees the potential in each and every student, when too many others see them as statistics or budget lines.

Mr. John Baker, Physical Ed Teacher at Des Moines Public SchoolsI have had the opportunity to work along side Heather at Cowles Montessori in DMPS. She is not only a compassionate educator that understands her profession but is uniquely qualified in regards to whole child learning. When Ms. Anderson understands the importance of a project she is personally engaged and usually more often out front leading the charge. I know she would have an immediate impact as a school board member helping students, staff, and community, I urge you to give her your support during her campaign. John E. BakerJuly 2015
